The Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, PhD, has graciously approved pardons for 9 inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Sokoto. The pardons, which include unconditional releases and conditional pardons, were granted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Representing the Governor, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Barrister. Lema Sambo Wali stated that the gesture aligns with Section 212 of the Nigerian Constitution and acknowledges the inmates' good conduct and behaviour. The Governor donated ₦50,000 to each of the nine released inmates to support transportation and small business startups, promoting self-reliance.
The Controller of Corrections, Sokoto State Command, CC Lawal Idris Guasu, welcomed the Governor's representative and committee members to the Centre. He expressed gratitude for the Governor's gesture, which supports the service's policies and programs aimed at decongesting custodial facilities nationwide. The Controller urged the released inmates to become good ambassadors by applying the skills and knowledge acquired through the centre's reformation and rehabilitation programs.
